KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress and BJP both moved the Election Commission on Saturday, seeking an investigation into the leaked audio tape of a purported conversation between Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and her party’s Sitalkuchi candidate Partha Pratim Ray after the CISF firing in which four people died.
While Trinamool sought action for “violation of the right to privacy” under various sections of the Indian Telegraph Act, IT Act and the IPC, BJP demanded a probe into “how and by whom the tape was made viral to solicit votes on religious lines, which is prohibited under the model code of conduct.” In its written complaint to the EC, a Trinamool delegation led by Yashwant Sinha, Derek O’Brien and Purnendu Basu said the purported phone conversation between Mamata and Ray was played by BJP during a presser at its office in the presence of BJP’s IT cell in-charge Amit Malviya and MP Locket Chatterjee.

KOLKATA: BJP on Friday released an audio tape of a conversation purportedly between Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and TMC Sitalkuchi candidate Partha Pratim Ray that, BJP claimed, occurred in the immediate aftermath of last Saturday’s CISF firing in which four people were killed.
The tape released by BJP national IT cell incharge Amit Malviya has the female voice asking “Partha” to “keep the bodies so that the party could hold a rally with the dead”. It is then heard asking “the TMC candidate” “to tell the families not to take the bodies home”.

A BJP delegation on Sunday urged Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Ariz Aftab to take note of a purported audio clip -- in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is heard proposing a rally with the bodies of Cooch Behar firing victims - as "such move could lead to more tension" in the state amid the ongoing elections. Senior BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta, who led the delegation to the CEO office here, told reporters that he has apprised Aftab of the conversation that apparently took place between Banerjee and the TMC's Sitalkuchi nominee, and pointed out that it could lead to untoward situations in the next three phases of the assembly elections.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 17 (ANI): A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met the Chief Electoral Officer in Kolkata requesting the Commission to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for probing the purported audiotape of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in which she can be heard telling the TMC candidate from the Sitalkuchi constituency to hold protests with bodies of the four killed in Cooch Behar violence.
"As far as the authenticity of the tape is concerned, Derek O'Brien and Sukhendu Sekhar Roy confirmed it in a conversation with the media. The only goal of the tape was to create further polarisation," BJP leader Shishir Bajoria told mediapersons after meeting Election Commission officials in Kolkata.
