Records. ann. andrea mitchell, thank you very much for your reporting on this. now we are learning more about tapping into e-mails. pete williams has more. what are we learning? reporter: good evening. sources familiar with the separate government program, one that monitors the internet for suspicious e-mail and other traffic confirms its existence first reported by the washington post and guardian newspapers. the papers and officials say it allows the nsa and fbi to tap directly into the computer providers of some of the largest computer servers of some of the largest internet providers. government analysts can monitor the traffic in real time using special programs to watch for suspicious messages or postings. the equivalent of standing in the post office and watching for specific envelopes that go by coming from parts of the world or people that are deemed to be possible troublemakers. this is different, they say, ....

Law enforcement officials say the fbi began by tracing where those threatening e-mails sent to jill kelley were coming from. which cities, which hotels? and eventually discovered the name, paula broadwell fbi got access to her e-mail account and found she sent them. but they said her e-mail account also included what appeared to be suggestive e-mails from david petraeus, that first they wondered if somebody hacked into his private account. interviewed separately, both admitted their affair, officials say. broadwell, in late september, petraeus, in october, low-level documents were found on her computer. agents eventually determined she had proper access to them after reviewing all the evidence, the prosecutors determined no crimes were committed no leaking of classified information. no threat to national security. some say they, or at least president obama should have been ....

Any one who has been watching television lately knows american crops are dying on the vine, but when congress left town last night, they couldn t even agree on drought relief for struggling farmers and livestock producers. let s go home and prepare for a farm bill debate when we come back, but most importantly, let s just go home! schieffer: not to worry. maybe it will rain. farmers shouldn t feel slighted, though. congress also couldn t agree on a plan to protect our vital infrastructure from cyber attack. most national security advisers say that s really important, too. and there s also a couple of fairly important items that have to be resolved one of these days: whether to let the bush tax cuts expire at the end of the year, and whether or not to block a draconian $110 billion across-the-board cut in defense and domestic spending. now, there is no word on what if anything they plan to do about those items. ....
