Formerly called the Northern Studies Resource Centre, the Indigenous Elders Council has given Lakehead University's Indigenous resource centre a new name: Nanda Gikendan Gamik, or 'Seek to Know, Seek to Learn Place.' It's part of growing efforts across Canada to decolonize educational spaces.

The family of Rita Nicholas Lalonde is heartbroken to announce her passing on April 16th, 2021 after a courageously fought battle with cancer. Rita was born on February 9th, 1944 in St. John’s Newfoundland to Ralph and Alice Nicholas. The family moved west to Atikokan Ontario in 1949. Growing up as the oldest and only girl in a house with three brothers, Rita took her role as a big sister very seriously, her brothers always knew they could count on her.
