Officials at Stanford University launched a hate crime investigation after a noose was found hanging outside a student residence hall Sunday.

The noose was found around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday.
The rope used in the incident was allegedly one of several that had been tied to the tree for a performance by a student organization years ago.
