Relationships make the difference between creating an effective film score and one that fulfills the form’s potential, Grant Fonda says. Notes engage one another, of course, and musical themes complement and heighten a movie's visual language. But before Fonda ever places a note on the staff, he pursues a relationship with the film's director. Forming a bond that goes beyond creative choices and dives into the filmmaker's personality and tastes allows the composer to craft a score that truly suits the artist. After all, a film is a “creative extension of who a director is,” Fonda said. This approach has contributed to the Los Angeles-based composer's expanding circle of relationships and lengthy resume. A 2012 University of Missouri alum, Fonda's IMDB page currently lists 33 composer credits and 12 more roles within the musical departments of various films — all since 2013.

Easton news briefs NoteAble Blend to create second virtual chorus The NoteAble Blend chorus based in South Easton recently created a virtual chorus video in which each participant recorded her part and submitted it to an audio technician to compile the individual parts into a four-part recording. The first recording was a song called “Sound Celebration” and can be heard at http://noteableblend.org. NoteAble is now planning a second virtual chorus and is inviting all women who like to sing to join in the process. The selected song is “With A Little Help From My Friends,” and participants will be able to learn the song by attending three Zoom rehearsals Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 3. Learning tracks by part will be provided and there is no cost to participate.
Kenya’s film The Letter has been named in the list of eligible films for this year’s Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars. The nominees for the awards will be announced on February 9, 2021 ahead of the Oscars Academy Awards ceremony scheduled for April 25, 2021. The Kenya Film Commission has previously selected The Letter as the country’s official entry for the Oscars’ best international film category. The Letter is a film by producer-director duo Christopher King and Maia Lekow. The film follows a young man, Karisa, who travels to his grandmother’s rural home when he learns she has been accused of witchcraft. He discovers that the threatening letter she received came from a member of his own family, and that the accusations have caused a rift among relatives driven by a combination of superstition and economic motives.
