By Staff Reporter A LEADING human rights organisation, the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, has raised strong concerns over the continuing rise in violations especially arbitrary arrests and torture mainly of opposition activists by law enforcement agents. This is contained in the Forum’s latest situational report for the period 6 to 23 April 2021. “The human rights terrain in the country continued to deteriorate with the arrest, conviction, and torture of dissenting voices, on seemingly frivolous charges being observed,” the reports noted. “It is disheartening to note the forced removal of Harare West Member of Parliament Joanna Mamombe from Parktown Hospital where she had been receiving treatment after her health condition deteriorated at Chikurubi (Female) Prison. ....
By Mary Taruvinga FOUR MDC Alliance activists, arrested last week on allegations of engaging in disorderly conduct were this Monday denied bail by Harare Magistrate Richard Mangosi. The four are; Vimbai Tome (51), Kudakwashe Butau (30), Ngonidzashe Mupfumba (21) and Patrick Shumba (22). In denying them bail, the magistrate ruled the state had a strong case against them. Magistrate Mangosi also ruled there was overwhelming evidence against the suspects since they were arrested on the crime scene. “The court is of the view that this may force the accused to abscond or flee the jurisdiction of this case if I granted bail, ” he ruled. ....

She was arraigned before Harare Magistrate Richard Mangosi facing disorderly conduct charges. Tome (51) is being charged together with Kudakwashe Butau (30) Ngonidzashe Mupfumba (21) and Patrick Shumba (22). They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to this Friday for bail ruling. According to prosecutors, on Tuesday this week, Tome, Mupfumba, Shumba and Butau or one or more of them “intentionally engaged in a disorderly conduct by chanting slogan ‘Ahoi maComrades Ahoi’ and during an attempt by the police to disperse them, Tome shouted “ndabatwa zamu” in a bid to distract police officers from dispersing them. ....
