Fans will have plenty of pari-mutuel action to enjoy this Sunday (June 13) as a trio of Ontario ovals will welcome horsepeople back to the track. Dresden Raceway (1:00 p.m.), Clinton Raceway (1:30 p.m.) and Rideau Carleton Raceway (6:30 p.m.) will have their starting gates fired up as a total of 34 races combined will be contested. Kicking off the Sunday festivities will be Dresden Raceway, and their featured event is the $5,500 Preferred 3 for pacers. A group of eight is set to go postward, and among the combatants is the classy veteran Leafs And Wings. Just under six months away from mandatory retirement, the 14-year-old son of Rambaran continues to chip away and be productive for trainer Mike Rogers who has listed Alfie Carroll to pilot the 56-time winner. ....
With 15 races on the Sunday (March 14) card at Rideau Carleton Raceway, driver Guy Gagnon snagged seven three of which came from his stable and another three of which came from trainer Mandy Archer, who scored a grand slam. Gagnon’s evening began with a wire-to-wire job in the opener to win with his pupil Wild River Coyotee ($4.10) in 2:00.1. Two races later, Gagnon bagged an open-length victory with Windsong Quincy ($2.10) the first of Mandy Archer’s four winners. Gagnon later drove Saskabush Steve ($7.00) and Archer trainees Avatar J ($2.50) and The Roadies ($4.80) to victories before wrapping his seven-up with wins by his trainees Stelios ($2.20) and Undercover Strike ($3.30). ....
Driver Marie Claude Auger claimed the top spot in both featured events at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (Dec. 13) among them a 10-1 upset in a photo finish behind Racemup in the $9,200 Preferred Pace. Getting away in the pocket, Racemup stalked pacesetter Avatar J through fractions of :27.3 and :57. By the half, Luke And Duke angled out of fourth to advance towards the leader, but Avatar J promptly accelerated into the backside to hit three-quarters in 1:24.4. Luke And Duke began to close in on Avatar J off the final turn while Racemup waited for the open stretch. Once given clearance, Racemup rallied to the lead and slid a head in front to the finish of a 1:54 mile with Luke And Duke taking second and Avatar J settling for third. ....
