(AP) - A 73-year-old Rhode Island man faces a murder charge in the shooting death of his girlfriend’s adult son, police said. Charles Gangi shot and killed 41-year-old Paul Zois on Tuesday during what was described by police as a “heated argument” in the Cranston home they shared, Chief Col. Michael Winquist said. Gangi was held without bail at his arraignment Wednesday. He did not enter pleas to felony charges including first-degree murder, which is customary in district court. No defense attorney was listed in court records and he was referred to the public defender’s office.

CRANSTON, RI A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at a private residence on Tuesday afternoon, said Chief of Police Michel J. Winquist in a news release. Charles Gangi, 73, is charged with first degree murder, discharge of a firearm resulting in death, assault with a dangerous weapon, and discharge of a firearm in a compact area, according to police. Cranston police responded to 17 B Street at approximately 2:39 p.m. on Dec. 29 following a 911 call that reported someone had been shot, said Winquist. Officers found Paul Zoice, 41, unconscious and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
