Unlike many countries worldwide, Quebec has no regulations governing the treatment of animals raised for food, according to Montreal's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). The organization is engaged in a fight for legal changes, arguing that just because animals are being raised for human consumption doesn't mean they don't deserve humane living conditions.

It would be illegal for a Quebec landlord to ban tenants from having pets if a — potential — bill actually passes the National Assembly. Opposition political party Québec solidaire (QS) has committed to introducing a bill to that effect by the end of the current legislative session.

The Montreal SPCA needs your help! The animal welfare centre currently has 31 rabbits up for adoption — all of which urgently need a forever home. The Montreal SPCA shared a post across its socials on Feb 2 saying that they would be waiving all of the adoption fees associated with adopting a bunny.

An SPCA in Quebec is asking the public for help after someone left 14 animals in its parking lot. SPCA Roussillon in the South Shore municipality of Delson said in a May 27 Facebook post that the animals, 13 guinea pigs and a rabbit, "were left to fend for themselves" in the organization's parking lot.

On April 29, 2022, the Montreal SPCA announced on its social media pages that they are currently recruiting a dozen employees to fill various positions as the animal charity organization enters its high season. Considering many pet owners abandon their pets come the summer season, the SPCA needs "more hands on deck" to help with the increase in animals throughout its shelters.
