PDP, in favor of a pre-poll alliance with the National Conference for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls, emphasizes unity within the Peoples' Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD). The party wants to maintain cohesion within PAGD, formed after Mehbooba Mufti's efforts, and aims for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to unite for broader objectives.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti's remarks came days after the Supreme Court on December 11 upheld the Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370, which bestowed special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, and directed restoration of statehood "at the earliest" as well as elections to the assembly by September 30 next year.
In its monthly newsletter SPEAK UP, the Peoples Democratic Party accused the BJP of dividing Jammu and Kashmir's resources for its "cronies" and passing laws to disempower the people. The party has questioned the BJP's contributions to the region and responded to Amit Shah's critique of Nehru's handling of Kashmir, highlighting Kashmir's accession to India.
