Indigenous students from any of Wisconsin's 11 tribes will be able to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison for free beginning next fall.
In-state undergraduate students affiliated with of Wisconsin's 11 federally recognized tribes will be eligible for a full-tuition waiver program, regardless of financial need.
The UW system launched the Wisconsin Tuition Promise this fall, but legislators cut the program's funding when they took up Gov. Tony Evers’ state budget proposal.
"(Pell Pathway) allowed me to be a lot more ambitious, because I don't feel limited by financial burdens or having to work to sustain myself," freshman Enson Zheng said.
