Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force’s (NDRF) 10th Battalion saved a man named B. Venkata Naresh who was swept away in the swirling waters of the Krishna on Monday.
Mr. Naresh, a taxi driver hailing from Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada, came to the river to take a bath. However, he was soon swept away, said NDRF Commandant Zahid Khan.
Fishermen and locals tried in vain to save Mr. Naresh, and alerted the NDRF personnel who were practicing aquatic courses in the river at Seethanagaram village in Guntur district.

A part of the Nanda Devi glacier broke off in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Sunday having resulted in the death of many with even more people missing. Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Indian Air Force were sent for rescue missions in the hilly terrains.
Many Indian film stars took to Twitter to express their grief about the incident. Priyanka Chopra, who hails from a military family, tweeted praising the efforts of the rescue forces.

Under the weight of a suspected avalanche, a massive chunk of ice and frozen mud broke away from a glacier in the high Himalayas and fell into a lake that had formed at its snout due to climate change. The moraine around the lake collapsed and a flash flood came roaring down the Rishi Ganga river in Uttarakhand, India, on the morning of February 7. Over a day later, more than 152 people working inside tunnels to build two hydroelectricity projects downstream were still missing; 25 have been rescued and ten bodies found. Mud inundates the project sites, and teams are still trying to open up the tunnels. One large and ten smaller bridges have been washed away.
