Hontiveros wants probe on high cost of port fees

Senator Risa Hontiveros(File photo) MANILA-Senator Risa Hontiveros has filed a resolution seeking to investigate, in aid of legislation, the administrative orders issued by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) that have led to an "excessive" rise in port fees. "These administrative orders are causing distress not only to the shipping operators but also to ordinary consumers. An increase in shipping costs poses a risk of further raising already burdensome pricing and inflation,"Hontiveros said in a statement on Wednesday. She said the increase in port fees will pose a risk of further raising the burdensome pricing of inflation that may affect how importers price their products, which in the end, may negatively affect the general public.
