Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. donates school supplies Thursday to Southwood Elementary School in the Pine Bluff School District. Participants included Charles Bruce (from left), Carson Fields, Vice Principal David Sims, Thomas Gathen, Principal Paula Watson, George Stepps, Ronald Laurent and Kevin Harris. Several members of Gamma Psi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma were present for the event. Seventeen students from four states gained a first-hand look at career opportunities in the agricultural sciences through hands-on labs, field trips, and group and team-building activities in the AgDiscovery program.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture has awarded the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff more than $2 million in grants for agriculture-related programs, said Bruce McGowan, interim dean/director for the UAPB School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences.
