Such a grand marker for the plays where their lives ended. in the end, the salvage operator said the submersible was in five major pieces and auld indications that it suffered a catastrophic loss and that the people, the pilot and passengers in the submersible died in an instant. neil? neil: catastrophic development happened when communications broke off in that 1 1/2 hour time frame when they first started descending, correct? that seems to be an all at once communication stopped. they had two different communications. one was from texting and a ping from the craft itself. that communication just stopped abruptly. there wasn t any follow up. we had reports of sound, what was described as a banging noise. could never be confirmed. ....

Subwent down and they lost communication and they lost the ping and they lost the text messaging and then they subsequently hear this loud boom they may have heard what was the implosion, maybe at that point they no longer need these vehicles because it s not a rescue operation. it s a recovery operation. i understand that s the assumption they are operating off of. i think they need to tell us why they were operating off of that assumption and then they need to explain on why tuesday and wednesday hearing all of these pings consistent with an sos signal. this is what i m hearing from civilian experts who are at the site. and then they are contacting my office and they are telling me this. that s what i have been operating off of. so nothing has changed. you know, by the way, yesterday and days before, these people who are contacting our office, telling us exactly where the submarine is. they are saying look, the coast guard is acting like a search area twice the size of connecticut ....

Before oxygen runs out for the men on board. but there is some hope more noises have been heard. when you re in the middle of a search and rescue case, you always have hope. that s what we do what we do. with respect to the noises specifically, we don t know what they are, to be frank with you. the good news is, we are searching in the area where the noises were detected and we will continue to do so. at that depth, radio and radar signals will not work so the rescue operation has been dropping sonar buoys in the water. they either use passive detection listening for sounds produced it s by propellers and machinery, which can also include the crew making noise or what is called active detection, by bouncing the sonar ping off the surface of the vessel and listening for a returning echo. trapped inside are british citizens hamish harding, shahzada dawood and his teenage son suleman. shahzada is someone who has an uncommon zest for life. he has a real sense of adventure, he has a r ....

MSNBC Chris Jansing Reports June 4, 2024 18:32:00

Whether this was safe. let me just start with a question that i ve heard from a lot of people which is could it have been found sooner? why wasn t there a ping or a tracking device on it? yes, and this is what i do, what my wife does for business. we mitigate risk. our job is to keep everybody safe, whether they re clients or equipment. and bring an $8 million robot out to scan for lost world war ii wrecks and we lose it, we have an rov on board that is bigger than me, as big as the system that was lost here to go down and find our assets. we carry it with us. we don t call for help. if i was planning this expedition, i would have known all the assets in the area that would have reached the bottom of the titanic, and reached out to them and have them in place. those counseling people to do this advising people to do this should have done that. ....

For some of the equipment that s going to be being sent. obviously the clock is ticking. is that vessel then going to try to get to the area of the dive? reporter: that is the hope. there are three enormous c17 airplanes, u.s. military aircraft at the airport now here in st. john s. there is tons of gear on there, including some deep water submersible gear that will we believe eventually make its way to this ship. there are several coast guard ships in the bay here as well. another coast guardship, canadian coast guard, is heading out there and should be there in the morning. all of this, anderson, assumes that they can find the capsule. this is the biggest problem, they can t find the sub yet. the easy part should be getting a ping off af beacon, knowing where it is and being able to try to get to it to bring it up. if they can get that ping, if ....
