Thailand fully reopened to tourists in June (the same month the government legalised recreational cannabis), but visitor numbers remain low

BANGKOK (AP) — Heavy rain in northern, northeastern and central Thailand worsened severe flooding in many parts of the country on Monday, as authorities ordered the release of water into already overflowing rivers from dams that were filled to capacity.

For the past two months, vast areas of the upper part of the country have been ravaged by flooding. In fact, from Sept 28 to yesterday, 54 provinces were affected including at least 240,066 households in 71,344 villages of 262 districts.

Hoteliers in Chiang Mai are staying alert to the flooding situation as some of them relocate their guests, while bookings this month might be slower due to the severe weather, says the Thai Hotels Association (THA).
