Going bush with the girls: Re-connecting while tramping through Pelorus Sound
It’s Saturday night – and we’ve swapped our tramping boots and sweaty, grubby walking gear for black dresses and lipstick. We’re a bunch of Wellington women – 11 mothers with 37 kids between us – and we’re huddled around a firepit in a lodge nestled in the Pelorus Sound. At 7pm, the sun has almost disappeared for the day and a cold southerly is blowing in off the water. Supplied Anna's birthday at On the Track Lodge. The trampers ditched their tramping gear for black dresses. Sarah Catherall is second left, and Anna Thurston, the birthday girl, fourth front, from left.
