20th anniversary of 9/11 and i'm calling a cafe to complain that i didn't get any syrup on my pancake. and i was at a deli on 9/11 because i wasn't aware a plane hit the building. i was hung over because i had been out all night. i said where are the people? where are the people? there was a number of workers dplieght corner. i was next to a fire department where no one returned. i woke up to the sound of every fire engine. i walked to 36 avenue and i never turned right. so i never saw the smoke. i saw people crying, i saw people weeping. i saw lines for the phones.

Rachel: nothing gets to me like those bagpipes. 20 years ago at this hour thousands of americans were getting up and getting ready and heading out to lower manhattan for a normal day of work at the world trade center. but the survivors and witnesses of the tragic events that unfolded will forever remember the images that they saw that day. photographer phil penman who was on the scene joins us with leslie has kin who was in her office on the 36th floor of the north tower when the plane hit. i'm going to start with you, phil. you're a photographer. you were doing what you do. you heard what was...
