Cyclone Seroja: Thousands of homes without power and buildings destroyed in Kalbarri, WA

West Australian communities battered by Cyclone Seroja could be without power for weeks as Premier Mark McGowan likened the damage to a 'war zone'.
Power is yet to be restored to about 29,500 homes and businesses late on Tuesday as authorities continue to assess the damage from the devastating storm.
Western Power said there were outages across the Midwest and Central Wheatbelt in an area spanning more than 700km long and 150km wide - with about 130 damaged poles on the transmission side of the network alone.
'We're working steadily to restore power but anticipate that some affected areas will be without power for weeks,' the utility said.

Hundreds of properties in the West Australian town of Kalbarri are feared to have been destroyed or sustained major damage from Tropical Cyclone Seroja.
Much of the carnage was concentrated in popular tourist spot Kalbarri, 580km north of Perth and home to about 1,400 people.
Premier Mark McGowan on Monday said up to 70 per cent of properties in Kalbarri had some damage.
About 40 per cent of those properties are believed to have sustained major damage including total loss.
"This is heartbreaking," Mr McGowan told reporters.
"All West Australians are thinking of those people who have been affected. The next few days will be very tough and difficult but we will get through this together."
