NASA recovers Hubble Space Telescope control for science operations NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has been recovered to an operational status. The collection of science data will now resume, confirms the U.S. space agency. Its payload computer first experienced a problem back on 13 June, and the instruments were then placed in a safe configuration and science operations suspended. Since July 15, the spacecraft has been switched to backup hardware. Nasa describes the success of the switch as follows: The switch included bringing online the backup Power Control Unit (PCU) and the backup Comma...

MORGAN MCFALL-JOHNSEN, BUSINESS INSIDER NASA has finally fixed its Hubble Space Telescope after weeks of troubleshooting a mysterious glitch. On Friday, the agency announced that Hubble had successfully turned on backups to the faulty hardware that shut down its operations more than a month ago. Now NASA engineers are slowly returning the telescope to full operations. The process could take a few days.   "I was quite worried," NASA Associate Administrator Thomas Zurbuchen said in a Friday video interview with Nzinga Tull, who led the Hubble team through troubleshooting. "We all knew t...

Hubble is back! NASA confirms telescope is functioning normally after adjustments July 19, 2021 by archyde It worked ! NASA successfully changed the backup hardware configuration of the Hubble Power Control Unit (PCU), and the telescope’s scientific instruments resumed data collection. The iconic instrument has had its operations suspended since June 13, when a drop in component voltage levels forced the payload computer to cease operations. “Hubble is an icon that has given us an incredible view of the cosmos over the past three decades,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. “I am pr...
