Answer for that problem. but a wall in and of itself strikes me as much more symbol than substance. ana navarro is with us this morning. did you find that to be a compelling answer from chief scott about the use of tear gas, which was essentially, look, our job is to protect the border. by the time they re here or through the fence, what are we supposed to do? his claim that most of the people storming the fence were men not the women and children we see in the pictures. look, there are no easy answers here. and it s a very difficult situation, a very complicated situation. i don t find that a compelling answer. we ve seen the images of the children and the women and there has got to be a pragmatic and compassionate answer that does not involve tear gassing children. that is not who america is. that is not what we do. the eyes of the world are watching us. if we are going to be the beacon of human rights for the world we ....

Challenge is more obviously in mexico than in the u.s. and tijuana, they are struggling by all accounts with the large number of migrants that they are having to essentially house while all of this gets sorted out. i have been writing ability immigration and public opinion immigration in the u.s. since the early 1990s, and i ve been struck over really 25 years the incredible consistency of american attitudes. the public is compassionate and pragmatic. they don t think it s realistic to deport 11 million people who are here, they don t want to deport daca recipients, but they also want the rule of law to be upheld and that includes having control over the border. and i think most americans will look at this and say we need a process that makes more sense that what we re seeing. how do you see these images bolstering the president s position? certain members say the president s base or even the president himself can look at these pictures of these chaotic ....

Cucumb cucumber? the big question democrats still can t answer is why hillary clinton lost. there is a still debate. was it she was not liberal enough? or was it that she was too liberal? i think what the 2018 election shows, as matt just said, is that actually the more pragmatic candidates who didn t try to inflame and play identity politics and lead with ideology did better. a lot of the progressive heroes heading into the night didn t go first across the finish line. beto o rourke tried to reach out. he didn t demonize ted cruz. but if you look at the folks who won and where they won, they did focus more on pragmatic problem solving and less on hyper partisan ship. that should send a message. matt, can t you say the same for republicans, right? that races where they went, you know, very hard right, and even races where the president doubled and tripled down on his ....

In florida, i think my numbers are right, i think they have added 2.5 million jobs in the last eight years under rick scott. the economy is booming. it s even more critical now. the new tax plan you can no longer deduct your state and local taxes, so places like florida, tennessee, texas, have become very happy hunting grounds for folks to go up and recruit particularly out of the high states in the northeast. we ve seen that. florida is on a boom. if i was florida, i would not want to turn that around. i compete with florida all the time. i have a unique perspective as the governor of tennessee. we re obviously competing with them all the time for new jobs. to me, if they turned around where they were going, the direction they have been in now, it would be a big mistake. let me ask you about your home state. you said this about the tennessee senate race. the democratic nominee and your predecessors as governor. he s making the argument i m another pragmatic in the tradition of tenne ....

In the new york times about phil bredesen, the democratic nominee and your predecessors as governor. he s making the argument i m another pragmatic in the tradition of tennessee leaders. i m going to do what s best for tennessee. and then you said, that s always been a good argument in tennessee. is it a good enough argument for him to pull the upset? i don t think so. that has been governor bredesen s argument, and he could point back to a good term as governor. but a couple of things, number one, marsha blackburn has run a really good race, i think they re well positioned. number two, tennessee is one of those states where the kavanaugh hearings did change things. people realized the color of the jersey you re wearing up there is really important. and i m not i don t know exactly, but i think the kavanaugh hearings had a five or six-point swing in tennessee. i personally think marsha will win by at least that much. republican bill haslam, the chair of the republican governors ....
