Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) President H D Deve Gowda has announced the formation of a core committee, led by Chamundeshwari MLA G T Devegowda, to develop an action plan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. The committee will travel to all districts in the state and submit a report to the party s state-level committee in October, recommending changes specific to each district. Deve Gowda aims to protect JD(S) as a regional party and plans to campaign for the party in the next elections, despite his age of 91.
While the Congress-led State Government is busy preparing to welcome opposition leaders for a crucial meeting in Bengaluru, the JD(S) and BJP are hinting at rapprochement and even planning for a tie-up for the next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
Senior BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has hinted at discussions regarding the JD(S) joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The results of the discussion will determine the future political developments. Leaders of both parties have indicated that they may come to an understanding ahead of the elections. The BJP won 25 of the total 28 seats in the State during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. The Congress and JD(S) won one seat each.
