president obama heads to tucson later today. he and the first lady will attend a memorial service and meet with victims family members tonight. lawmakers on capitol hill get briefed today about their safety. they ll hear from secret service and the fbi. concerns about safety increased after the massacre p. authorities say congresswoman giffords was the target and she remains in critical condition but she s holding her own. armies of snowplows are being sent out. a weather system that turned the south into an ice rink has merged with a storm from the planes. it dumped heavy no from major cities delaware to boston. mayor bloomberg is vowing a rapid response to the storm after being sharply criticized for the city s slow response to a blizzard just weeks ago.
the tucson shooting, president obama and the first lady led the nation in a moment of silence to offer thoughts and prayers to the victims. after receiving briefing from the advisors and calling victims families and heroes of the attack, obama will try to start the healing process for the community and nation. it will be important for the country as a whole and the people of arizona to feel as if we are speaking directly to the sense of loss. but also speaking to the hopes for the future and out of the tragedy we can come together as stronger nation. newsweek offered obama advice on what after fort hood will be his second memorial service following mass shooting. he suggests the speechwriter who
