Zanaco and Lusaka Dynamos will meet in the 2021 ABSA Cup semifinals following respective post-match victories in Sunday’s quarterfinal doubleheader played at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka. Dynamos and Zanaco join Konkola Blades and defending champions Zesco United in the last four after they sailed through in Saturday’s doubleheader at the same venue. In Sunday’s lunchtime kickoff, Dynamos beat Prison Leopards 3-1 in the shootouts after a 1-1 fulltime result. In regulation time, Dynamos took the lead in the 15th minute off a Tshite Mweshi own-goal before Taddy Etekiama equalized in the 35th minute. In the final last eight match, Zanaco had to rally twice in regulation time to finish 2-2 against Kabwe Warriors in their Midlands Derby clash.
Zesco United have an opportunity to open a four-point lead on the 2020/2021 FAZ Super Division table on Sunday when they visit Kabwe Warriors. Zesco could benefit from second place Zanaco’s inactivity this weekend with whom they are now seemingly engaged with in the start of a two-horse race for the 2020/2021 league title. Zanaco who are a point behind Zesco on 36 points are on break because opponents and Week 21 guest Nkana are heading to Egypt this Sunday for their CAF Confederation Cup Group D opener against Pyramids on March 10 in Cairo. The onus is clearly now on Zesco to conjure a victory in Kabwe this Sunday knowing very well that, despite Zanaco’s status, the number two side still enjoys healthier goal difference.

Napsa today finished 0-0 away to Kitwe United at Garden Park. The result sees the Lusaka side exhaust its four outstanding matches with three draws and one defeat. Overall, Napsa have now collected five draws and two defeats since they beat Prison Leopards 2-1 at home in Lusaka on January 10. Despite the draw, Napsa crawl one notch up to the top four of the relegation zone to number 15 on as many points and games played. Napsa host Nkwazi this Sunday in their last game before heading to Nairobi for their Valentines Day date against Gor Mahia of Kenya in a CAF Confederation Cup pre-group stage first leg match on February 13.

Bottom of the table and winless United took the game to Zanaco who had goalkeeper Mangani Banda to thank for a couple of critical saves. At Presidents Stadium ,second placed Prison Leopards needed a last minute equalizer from David Obashi in their Kabwe derby against visitors Kabwe Warriors after Ali Sadiki had put the visitors ahead. There was also a draw result in the Ndola derby where hosts Indeni and third placed Forest Rangers finished 2-2. Zanaco, Prison and Forest all have 25 points. But joining them on 25 points are Zesco United who won 2-0 at home in Ndola against Lusaka Dynamos.

The six-time champions visit Chingalika who have collected just one point from their last five games and are already early favourites for relegation with 19 games left to play. Meanwhile, Forest and Prison’s hopes of staying in the top three face an interesting test this weekend.

Nkana are out to avoid dropping into the bottom four as they face Lusaka Dynamos on Saturday in the Week 14 match of the FAZ Super Division set for Sunset Stadium in Lusaka. 14th placed Kalampa are one point above the relegation zone going into the clash against Dynamos in the capital City. Coach Kelvin Kaindu’s side sits on 14 points after playing 11 matches while Dynamos are seventh on 17 points from 12 matches played. Nkana have a mixed record from their last four matches that has seen them pick two wins and two losses. Dynamos had enjoyed a two match winning run before they were stopped by Nkwazi via a goalless draw last week.
Zambia’s continental envoys Nkana and Napsa Stars continued to struggle on the domestic front after posting a defeat and draw in their respective fixtures in Saturday’s doubleheader at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka. Defending FAZ Super Division champions Nkana lost 2-0 away to sixth placed Lusaka Dynamos to suffer their second successive league defeat after a 2-1 home loss to Zesco United on January 17. Nkana have collected just one competitive match in their last five matches that came three games ago in a 2-1 league win at home over Red Arrows in January 13. Tady Etekiama and Lubamba Moyela punished Nkana for some very basic goalkeeping and defensive errors in the 15th and 60th minutes respectively.
