UNJP, other partnership 'milestones' cited on UN Day

MANILA - Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. and United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Philippines Gustavo Gonzalez have acknowledged the milestones jointly achieved by the Philippines and the UN in 2021. At the 2021 UN Day virtual commemoration on Monday night, Locsin and Gonzales cited the partnership achievements that include the launch of the Philippines-UN Joint Programme on Human Rights, the delivery of more than 24 million Covid-19 vaccines through the COVAX Facility, and the UN-facilitated "People's Summit," which Locsin called "a showcase example of localizing a global agenda", in particular the Food Systems Summit. Locsin recalled the 75th anniversary of the UN in 2020, which was marked "in a somber mood" because of Covid-19, saying "though we are still not out of the woods, we now have the knowledge and tools to fight it: vaccines, medicines, and informed policies." PH, UN forge pact on human rights protection

The Philippines and the United Nations (UN) have launched a joint program that outlines mechanisms that aim to strengthen the country’s institution and support its continued fulfillment of international human rights obligations, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
