Chandler will stay on as NSW building commissioner after the government convinced him to reconsider his resignation
NSW construction watchdog David Chandler said developers would celebrate his departure with champagne but he wanted to make them wait an extra year, however, he has cut short his tenure.
The abrupt departure of NSW’s first Building Commissioner has sparked speculation and raised questions about the future of the state’s building reform agenda.
Labor is urging the government to explain Chandler’s “dramatic and premature” departure from his role, which was created to clean up shoddy building work.
The NSW Government’s Project Remediate, which sees eligible buildings with flammable cladding able to have the materials replaced, is still in a holding pattern, with not one of the 166 buildings registered for the scheme yet to be rectified.
