Lawyer Stephens Kithi charged over Sh1.1bn fraud

A Mombasa advocate is in trouble over his involvement in a Sh1.1 billion land transaction with a Chinese construction firm that turned sour. Mr Stephens Kithi Ngombo has been charged in court for attempting to obtain the money from China Wuyi Kenya Limited, pretending he could sell land belonging to Tourism Finance Corporation. The charge sheet indicates that the suspect attempted to obtain Sh1.09 billion from the company on July 30, 2016. Mr Ngombo is further accused of obtaining Sh20 million from the company. He is charged that on April 18, 2017, he obtained the money by falsely pretending that it was part payment to secure the land. The advocate pleaded not guilty to the two offences when he appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Rita Amwayi. Mr Ngombo had asked the court to postpone the plea-taking to allow for the conclusion of a High Court case he said he had filed. Civil dispute But ....
