We are going to know more about the cbo impact. which, of course, was enormously wrong in terms of the obamacare impact on who it would insure, who it won t. the new people who are insured are largely because of medicaid expansion. and i might point out, there s nothing remarkable about free stuff. if the federal government wants to pay for my kids automobile insurance, that would save me a lot of money. i d be very appreciative of it. the reality that we keep forgetting is that the federal government is going broke and it can t cover everything for everybody. but one thing that s missing in this debate. is that 93% of the people are covered under an employer plan or medicaid or medicare or children s healthcare, the s chip plan. we re debating 7% of the people. that s what we re focusing on here today. and to take care of preexisting illnesses for those people, that s not an impossible thing to accomplish. still millions of people. all right. i want both of you to stand by. ....
Care. congressman israel the way the original bill, obamacare, the affordable health care act the way that was sold to the american people was in many ways mandatous. they were told if you like your plan you can keep your plan, if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. that s not true. insurance companies are leaving obamacare, leaving consumers with fewer options, not greater options. do you think the democrats in the way they sold this bill to the public really undermine their own credibility on the issue of health care? well, jake look. let s stipulate obamacare is far from perfect. there was some significant flaws in its execution including a website that went down. yes, i remember that one. here s the deal. i do too. it wasn t fun for anybody. here s the deal. ....
you used to passaic political tv ads for a living. give me what you think based on what just happened is the prototypical attack ad against the republican who voted for this bill. how is this going to be cast in front much voters in say a swing district? that was what was so interesting to me about nancy pelosi summation because she basically laid out a road map for democratic candidates and democratic ad makers for how they should approach this. certainly this issue of pre-existing conditions is going to be fronts and center. that was the most appealing part of the obamacare, affordable care act legislation. americans whether they were democrats, independents or even republicans believed that people with pre-existing conditions should get coverage and this clearly jeopardizes that for some americans and that s not going to sit well with voters. some of the cutbacks in ....
Where republicans were saying democrats will lose your house seats if you pass this bill and of course the democrats were devastated in the 2010 mid-term elections. but, look, the scoring of this is going to come. there will be a score before the final vote. this has to go through the house, then senate and another vote in the house and senate to pass the final bill. but i think, i want to make one point that hasn t been made which is really what s at stake is complete conflict divisions between the two parties in the united states. the democrats, and i ve been on this show many times debating democrats that admit obamacare is falling apart but say we need to move more towards a government-run system. what this is really about fundamentally is whether americans want a government-run health care system because if we stay with obamacare it will be a government-run system or whether we want more of a free enterprise system where the private-sector runs our health ....
Short term victory that they can start the steps of governing. we have no idea. a, whether this bill becomes a final bill that gets to the president s desk a law to repeal and replace obamacare. we have no idea if that happens. we don t have a good sense what will the economy look like, what will the president s rating look like. democrats clearly think they are taking up what they thought was a generational achievement passing a national health care plan. democrats thought we waited for 50 years. we wanted to do this. thought it would be a great asset. it turned into an albatross. wiped out in 2014 and again in 2016 in large part because of obamacare. they believe they are handing ownership of what became an albatross to the republicans. remember as we look at the roll call 198 in favor, 192 opposed. the magic number 216. that s what the republicans need in order to get this passed. to steven moore s point about ....
