these students have been together for six days. they met each other monday morning. they were given a handout saying show up here no earlier than 11 and they had 20 bucks and whatever they could scrounge to build a freestanding device that would capture rain water from a monsoon. they re thrown into rapid prototyping. they took an approach of trying to do simple elegance and also extreme affordability in the spirit of the class so we didn t spend any money to build our contraption. the thing that we learn i think really quick is build early and often. as soon as you build, you can see whether the ideas hold water literally in a sense. we re trying to get them to know one another as quickly as possible. and also get them into the notion of prototyping and confidence with tools and having some fun competing under pressure. the equipment that the students have designed and build ....

Simplicity and maybe it was also our downfall. yeah. we had more time to test it, i mean, our contraption back there made a few waterfalls in places where we didn t want it. everybody can see ways to make your structure better. we never get it right the first time, but we re going to go through things many times quickly, roughly. prototyping is a very effective way to make intellectual progress very quickly and the second thing is it is just really satisfying. this is light hearted. later in the course, i mean, the team in haiti will be dealing with people who are completely disabled with spinal cord damage from the earthquake there. they re going to be dealing with people in africa mall nourished. ultimately we look at serious stuff, and a big chunk of this is about teamwork and about getting to know each other and doing stuff that is not easy. ....

Content that the crowd produces. it can be done in a matter of hours or days if the right resources are brought to bear on the problem. not only can be done with great speed, it doesn t have to be perfectly accurate. because if i were standing in front of the boston public library and you were standing in front of the restaurant, we would have had very different views and images of what it is that happened. but you just need to get close enough to help people understand what it was that they were experiencing. eventually i think clinicians could design their own scenarios because they would simply use an authoring tool where you would take a character, put it in a scene, infuse the character with a certain behavior or role in that scenario and then run a simulation. one of the things that s going to make this rapid prototyping effort more doable is getting hardware in the hands of clinicians so that they can actually do this therapy. when we started this 12, 15 ....

Your experiment at going, you know, door-to-door really trying to help troubled school districts and reaching out to students? sure. so we set out as a project that seeks to about bring back more hand s on learning in schools. we were interested in giving kids opportunities to tinker with their hands and build stuff and bring them into the world and we discovered that this act of making something, of prototyping and objecting and making it real, has a lot more benefits than just the tangible physical ones. so, we ve discovered by talking to a lot of teachers we visited and a lot of students that what we re really doing is we re instulling a prototyping mindset, a growth mindset, we are here to encourage students it s okay if something doesn t work the first time and you can fail and learn from that failure and we think those kinds of lessons apply more broadly in life than just academia per se. jason, what kind of things are until truck? so we have some pretty cool ....
