The return of live farm working dog sales is proving a popular sideshow to the traditional sheep dog trials in the greater Whanganui district.
In fact, for many years, word of mouth was the main method of securing a top dog for most hill country shepherds, with only the occasional live sale held.
The East Coast has been a longtime supporter of live sales, often in Gisborne, while the regular sales in Mangamingi out the back of Eltham have not been held for seven or eight years now. ....

From charter buses to mobile health clinics, a Modesto-based company found a way to save jobs and lives.Storer Coachways launched The Bus Test Express, a bus-based medical facility. Sarah Storer, the vice president of Storer Coachways, said the buses have been deployed statewide, from Los Angeles to Sonoma counties, and serves hundreds of patients daily. Be truly mobile, provide healthcare services to the communities and the rural areas and the regions that need them the most, Storer said. The buses are converted charter buses. Storer said the idea for Bus Test Express was first realized when the pandemic first hit, after she and her father were faced with a heartbreaking decision to lay off 400 drivers.Instead, they devised a plan. Levin 6-year-old Caiden Strother is following in his parents footsteps by taking up competitive woodchopping. Both his parents were past New Zealand representatives
in their chosen sport.
It was during the Covid-19 lockdown period that he first took to chopping, after watching his father Aiden and his mother Chelsea in action. He walked up to his mum and dad, who were doing some training to pass the time, and said can I have a go? ....
