The government will offer courses through this centre on gaming.
In what could decide the future of PUBG and similar games in India, union minister Prakash Javadekar said Sunday that many mobile games are "violent, explicit, addictive, and tend to create a complex in the mind of children" and PUBG happens to be one of them. The statement comes across as a strong indication that the government is not going to favour the launch of PUBG Mobile India anytime soon. The relaunch of PUBG Mobile is a thing of high anticipation. The makers, PUBG Corporation are in a stalemate with the Indian government over it, so far leading to nothing but confusion. And now, the government is planning to set up a centre of excellence in gaming that would promote Indian cultural ethos, instead of violence.

PUBG Corporation has not said anything on the launch yet.
TikTok and other apps have also been notified.
If you have been waiting for PUBG Mobile to be legally available to play in India, I have some news for you. And it is bad. The government has issued notices to PUBG Corporation among other companies whose apps were banned in India last year that uphold the blockade. This would simply mean that PUBG Mobile cannot enter India, even if it is in a censored form bearing the name PUBG Mobile India. The latest move by the government is a blow to Krafton-owned PUBG Corporation that was optimistic that getting rid of China's Tencent Games will circumvent India's ban on its smash-hit battle royale.

PUBG Mobile India launch remains in the air as developers yet to receive go-ahead from government

Digit NewsDesk  | Published on 08 Jan 2021
PUBG Mobile India launch remains uncertain as there has been no update from the developers since their last announcement. The government’s response to an RTI query has revealed that PUBG Corporation or Krafton Inc are not in talks about lifting the ban on PUBG Mobile in India. PUBG Mobile along with 118 other apps was banned by the Indian government on September 2 citing security and privacy concerns. In November, the developers of the game announced a special version called PUBG Mobile India that was being developed for the Indian audiences.
According to a report and RTI filed by GemWire, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology has responded saying that it has not ‘banned’ public access to PUBG Mobile Nordic Map: Livik app under the provision of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The response indicates that the government has only ‘blocked’ access for specific apps including PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite and not PUBG as an entity.
