Previous ferry operator provided more service than the contract required, official explains, while also admitting his choice of words wasn’t ideal.

The public ferry between Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands switched operators Tuesday, offering what many say is a lower level of service and worrying residents that their needs won’t be met.

Residents say they’re still uncertain about how reservations will be made, how luggage will be handled and what type of boats they’ll be riding.
