The revival of South Africa’s construction industry is being hobbled by the slow rollout of infrastructure projects, despite the government’s drive to use the industry to stimulate the economy post the Covid-19 pandemic.
Construction market intelligence firm Industry Insight highlights that the current level of infrastructure investment “is nowhere near” the 10% target in the National Development Plan (NDP).

Following three consecutive years at second place, South Africa has been named the number one globally preferred front office Customer Experience (CX) offshore location. The award was announced on 8 April by Ryan Strategic Advisory’s Annual Front Office BPO Omnibus Survey. Placed second is India with a three-way placement for third place between Malaysia, Philippines, and Poland.

The establishment of a new construction sector umbrella body, the Construction Alliance South Africa (Casa), has been labelled an “act of opportunism and tenderpreneurship”.
Casa, an umbrella body of 29 South African construction sector associations, was officially launched last week.
The National African Federation for the Building Industry (Nafbi) and Black Business Federation (BBF) have added their voices to criticism by the SA Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors (Safcec) about Casa’s establishment. ....
