good evening. i m erin burnett. out front tonight, a greek collapse. literally. the greek finance minister just hours before he was to be sworn into his new role, it s a crucial role, fainted. it was a depressing visual for a country that is trying with a brand-new government to keep its economy from entering a black hole. the greek leader s collapse kept him from going to the highly anticipated euro 2012 soccer match today. greece took a shellacking from germany. germany was favored to win. the bookies only gave greece 17-2 odds. so the outcome was predictable. sort of like the break-up of the eu. italian prime minister mario monty warned today of the apocalypse. saying there is only one week left to save the euro zone. that s after the leaders of germany, france, spain and italy met today, to once again say we re going to do whatever it takes to strengthen our monetary union. the problem is they talk a lot and they don t do much. they have not done that yet. no one ex ....

sandusky until just this week. as the trial was going on, he apparently approached prosecutors and told them that he was molested. jason, if matt sandusky s claims was known by the prosecution, why didn t they call him to testify? well, i think it s a good question. i think there s a question in terms of whether or not his testimony would have been admissible, for one reason, jerry sandusky is not charged with sexually abusing his son. i can tell you this. think of this scenario. let s say for example jerry sandusky had taken the witness stand and it said during his testimony i m a great father, i have a great relationship with my children. that, then, would have opened the door for the prosecution to call a rebuttal witness and my sources told me, if jerry sandusky had taken the stand, they were prepared to put matt sandusky on the stand as a rebuttal witness and my source tells me that his testimony would have been, quote, very, very damaging. also let me backtrack ....

we want more ben and we want him now. but tonight, the truth. there s not enough ben for america. more ben is bad. i m talking, of course, about this ben, fed chair ben bernanke. today he announced he ll continue so-called operation twist. the goal is to bring down interest rates. theoretically that would spark borrowing, spending and hiring. it would be a panacea to fix the whole problem. but even ben admits his supply of money is drying up. monetary policy is not a panacea, it s not going to solve our economic problems. the fed fed s drugs didn t come cheap either. there have been three rounds of fed stimulus with a total price tag of $2.7 trillion. and that doesn t include the $267 billion extension to operation twist that was announced today. so the question is, were the highs we got worth the price of $2.7 trillion? check this out. when the financial crisis hit, the fed stepped in with an unprecedented plan to lower interest rates. it was called q.e. 1 or quant ....

you re in the situation room. their voters no candidate can afford to ignore any longer. and both mitt romney and president obama are reaching out to latinos this week with speeches to a national conference being held near orlando. the president addresses the group tomorrow. mitt romney spoke today. but the presumptive republican nominee has the greater challenge. a gallop poll shows mr. obama with a strong lead among hispanic registered voters. 66% to romney s 24%. but the president s advantage all but disappears in the battleground state of florida where the conference is being held. romney s trailing there by only four points according to a university poll. cnn national political correspondent, jim acosta s on the scene for us right outside orr lan toe. jim, romney spoke about immigration today. how did it go? reporter: wolf, a senior romney advisor told me that today s speech was more about laying out broad principles than specific policy proposals. that left ....
