China’s first sea-spanning high-speed railway (HSR) capable of a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour is expected to start service in East China’s Fujian Province on Thursday. The line shortens the travel time between Fuzhou and Xiamen to at most 55 minutes in a bid to enhance the connectivity between the two major cities in the province, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The total length of the line is 277 kilometers, and the design speed is 350 kilometers per hour. At present, the line meets the requirements for safe and stable operation of high- speed railways and has the conditions for opening and operation. The line will be open within this year, and will form a new higher-standard rail channel to open on September 9.
