I think it s important for folks to understand just how quickly this surge could actually happen. we re talking about a range as you mentioned 3 to 9 feet, right? my first question is what dictates whether this is a 3-foot storm surge or a 9-foot storm surge? could we see the water rise in literally 60 seconds to 2 minutes, that quickly? it wouldn t be that fast but it can be very quick, a matter of minutes. and depending on you can see this area in orange. the 6 to 9 feet. that is where they expect the heaviest winds to come piling in. as that system pushes up. usually the worst damage is in the northeast quadrant of a hurricane or a tropical system. so you picture that low basically, that hurricane coming up the coast. this would be the northeast quadrant. as it moves up and along and follows. it s almost like it is following tracks parallel to the coast line. so that s where you can see that ....

Front quadrant, 90% of the tornados occur at that location. so with time you can see these rain bands coming on shore. that s where the danger is. and we will start looking at that risk and getting that risk information out because that s an important factor when you look at these types of systems. al, that s a really good point. i remember in one of the hurricanes ike or something like that, it was predawn and a guy had a million candle power light. he said he is looking for the tornado. i said the wind is 117 miles an hour, and he said, yeah, there are tornados inside hurricanes. that s one of the things you will see tornado watches especially in florida. you will see these tornado watches posted. and it s like insult to injury. it s an extra danger though because with a hurricane you will at least have some sense of here is where the wind s coming, i m in a safe spot, i m behind something that s secure. you have no certainty like that with tornados. anything can whip up. i w ....

What i have noticed here in the last few hours is that the southwestern quadrant of the hurricane has eroded a little bit, and more than likely that is due to the interaction with land, and usually that is usually going to interrupt what is going on, but warm waters here, but it is going to be days. we will see the fluctuation, but overall, it is a major hurricane. all right. so the guidance is that from the computer models the next couple off days the same. then we start to diverge again, and is that going to impact florida? it will probably with the tropical storm force winds, and currently tropical storm watches out right around vero beach down the deerfield park. what we anticipate over the next 24, 48 hours is this slog across the bahamas. and then gradually, that turns more toward the northwest, so will it move 30 degrees more towards the florida peninsula? ....

Already, 150-mile-per-hour winds. we have a very strong category four hurricane. what is getting my attention is this southwestern quadrant down here looking a little rough, a little bit of dry air intrusion perhaps, but it is still concentric eye associated with dorian. it s moving towards the west, but we think it s going to slow down. for, as i mentioned, about two days, and then sort of stall here and make that turn more towards the northwest. but depending on just what degree it moves in that northwestern vicinity depends on what will happen in florida. we heard about gas stations out of gas. people had been boarding up. they are securing their homes. all of their loved ones taken into account. also we could see tropical storm, possibly hurricane-force winds along this east coast of florida. so you are not out of the woods. nor is coastal georgia, nor is ....

Of the south carolina coast. charleston, myrtle beach you re in on that as well. so still we have a ton of time here, the cone of certainty is still very large but that s a huge change. i want to talk about our model data. the european is really starting to come into agreement with all of our models here. look at how it barely touches the coastal areas of south florida here. so we re going to watch this. this is actually the left quadrant of the storm. so, this is the lighter side. the right quadrant is where you ll see the gustier winds and damaging winds from this potential hurricane that now is out towards charleston, wilmington, the outer banks of north carolina. so still the cone of uncertainty, people still wondering, hey, should we pack up and leave? we need to still be getting prepared, jo. but the cone is very large now, ....
