May exit back to the south of the wilmington area. even though it s weakening at 85. the potential for power outages now greater in the wilmington area and myrtle beach more likely now. if we do get this landfall into charleston as a category 2 hurricane with 100-mile-per-hour winds, that would cause a lot of problems with wind damage in the charleston area and if we get the landfall with the storm surge out ahead of it on the northeast quadrant, we could talk about a huge storm surge, maybe comparison with hugo in the 80s. brand new update from the hurricane center. in daytona, same in jacksonville. not out of the woods yet either. savannah, we ll watch closely and continue to monitor this and dylan will take over here and give you the new unipdates from the national hurricane center. possible landfall in south carolina. that s the headline there. ....

I was mentioning there was a little bit of a shift to the initial position. that s caused a shift to the models. this red line was almost over the top of daytona beach earlier today. even with the 5:00 p.m. update, it was much closer to the coast. they no longer have it making a landfall anywhere across the coast. we ll still have the horrible storm surge, still have winds that cause power outages to hundreds of thousands if not millions of people along the coast. but we won t see the northeast quadrant of the symptotorm, the strongest winds, going onshore. what this tells me, tomorrow morning, 125-mile-per-hour winds just off the space coast. as we go through friday night, as close as it s going to get to the jacksonville area. saturday morning, as close as it will get to savannah and charleston. it may do that hook thing. i don t want to spend a lot of energy on that, if it does, it s only a tropical storm, small potatoes, not that important to ....

That s what you want to avoid so you don t have a lot of destruction and the highest of the winds would be the northeastern quadrant and if that crosses the coastline, that s when you re going to get category 4 type damage. that s 11:00 p.m. over the top of west palm beach and then moving along the coastline here as we go up into early in the morning, it just rakes the coast and that s the northeast quadrant. that s why they evacuated the kennedy space centers and daytona beach, come noon tomorrow into flagler county here. the winds inland on this simulation do not look to be all that horrible. orlando in the 30 to 50-mile-per-hour range. that would more or less be minor power outages and damage but not count on that. it could move further inland. 8:00 p.m. friday night around the jacksonville coast and ferdinand beach, that s hurricane winds along your coast too. thursday night from 8:00 p.m., tonight, is when we start to do ....

They see the tv cameras and we basically told them don t stay here very much longer. from where the high water mark is where those folks are standing, that s this much water. more than normally is on the beach right here. the higher amount, that 11th foot, that unsurvivable amount of water, we are talking about north of fort pearce. when this storm starts to make its term west ward to make connection of florida as it is forecasted, that s where the eye and the north right quadrant of the storm pivots and pushes the strongest wall of water in. we are most concerned of that kind of water. there are a lot of inlets from there and all the way up to st. johns river in jacksonville. that means this is a strong force full push of big water. this is the kind of thing where we just got to get people out of the way. let me briefly go over the rainfall here. sorry, tom. we got those winds, hurricane forced along the coastline and ....

Stays out over the water because we don t want to mess with the business end of that eye which is the northeast end of that quadrant where the winds can get to 140, 145 miles an hour. we re start to go get a little rain in this area. we can tell you based on the light traffic we saw in the daytona beach area today, we suspect a lot of people got out and heeded the warnings to get out yesterday, so that s good news. we were at some shelters today. they are filling up. we did speak to one resident. she s fairly new to florida. she s been here three years and she s really scared because she s never gone through a hurricane, but she did have the good sense to leave her mobile home park and head into a high school here that is holding several hundred families, i would suspect, by the end of the night. chuck? anybody who has never been through one, just assume, however bad you think it is, it s worse than you think and it s longer than you think. ron motte, thank you very much. i m joined ....
