CHINESE Filipino Ernest John 'EJ' Obiena gives the Philippines its first gold in the Asian Games, breaking our nation's 37-year gold drought since Asia's Spirit Queen Lydia de Vega's 100-meter conquest in Seoul in 1986! He broke the Asiad record twice, capping at 5.9 meters (Obiena's personal best is 6.0 meters, making him the world's No. 2). Obiena is a product of the Chiang Kai-shek education, which also produced some of our top tycoons — Lucio Tan, Henry Sy, Carlos Chan of Oishi and Tony Tan Caktiong of Jollibee, among others.
