The Bonza Bay beach and Quenera River have been closed due to sewage spillages, with heavy rains, vandalised pump stations and load-shedding causing havoc in the already crumbling pipe system. Buffalo City spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya confirmed the beach had been closed due to the spillage, with a notice posted on the metro’s Facebook page on Thursday.
BCM DA ward 28 councillor Frederick Pohl has criticised the city for spending large amounts of money on a fencing project on “the road to nowhere” in Quenera Drive in Beacon Bay, while “neglecting road and sewerage” maintenance. In a video on his Facebook page, Pohl said: “BCM has appointed a contractor to install clear-view fencing around the road to nowhere.
