Facing dissolution of the Northern Berks Regional Police Department in the spring, the only member-municipality that opposed the breakup is proceeding with haste to develop a plan for alternative police coverage.
The Maidencreek Township supervisors are exploring contracting for coverage from Mount Penn-based Central Berks Regional Police Department as an alternative to establishing a department, township Manager Diane Hollenbach said last week.
They’ve hired a consultant to study the costs of staffing, equipping and housing their own police department and recently spoke with Central Berks Chief Raymond Serafin about buying police coverage from his department.
