It's not just the pings. it's also the inmarsat satellite data. it's the radar data. and it's the pings. three separate analyses which all coalesced in this particular area. the way i look at it is the pings are a microscope that give us a more probable location for the airplane. but even the pings define a large area which has to be surveyed with sonar. so i believe that they're looking in the right place. i would not be surprised if they found the record soon. if they don't, they're going to regroup. not start from the beginning, and move on to the next area. >> now richard, on this issue of...

And mary, you kind of don't want to think of this possibility, but we have to, behind the scene, do you think that investigators are prepared for the worst? for this possibility that we will never find out what happened to flight 370? >> well, i think the leadership probably is. the people out in the field searching the ocean and running the blue fin are focused on that mission. and that requires them to search those areas very thoroughly. but i'm sure angus houston and the malaysian officials are planning what the next step, or what their plan b will be, buz if this does, if these particular ...

If this does, if these particular search areas, the limited search areas, do not turn up the plane, then they're going to have to go back to the inmarsat data and make sense of the many, many conflicting reports of radar data out of malaiysia and indonesia and othr places and try to make sense of those and see if there are not new search areas that can be opened with better analysis or maybe more cooperation from governments in terms of their radar information. >> all right, mary, david, michael, stick with us. we want to talk to all of you again in just a few minutes. another story we'll be t...

We simply have taken the word of the authorities at face value. the americans have been saying this. the malaysians, the australians have all been saying take our word for it, it's in the southern ocean. i think if we don't find debris in the surface, if we don't find wreckage under the surface, the question is going to become deafening, where is this plane? why have you been telling us that it's in the south? we don't need to go to crazy conspiracies i think to want to know why do we think it's in the south if there is no evidence physically that it's there. >> and i hear your point. mary, do...

That doesn't make sense to us. >> and watching these press conferences as well to see what angus houston has to say. we get the most information from angus houston. >> yeah, it seems to be, very much so. >> are we beingmalaysia and the that they're doing here. . >> well, i would like to say yes, but not really. i mean, so very important. even simple things. you would expect a simple answer. the thing that's quite irritate to me is the business with the malaysian radar. where were the military and zilian air traffic controllers. why did it take so long to relay the information? and first they t...
