It only got permission to go to 34,000. but that last bullet point there is important. last radar scope was at 36,300. now, why was it at 36,300 when it had only been given permission to go to 34,000? we don't know. did it catch an updraft? were the pilots desperate to get out of bad weather? were they taking evasive movements? we don't know. as it relates to the actual cause of the crash, investigators will be anxious to evaluate both engines to see what they look like. they also to want take a look at the fans. is there any evidence of damage to the fans on the engines from either hail or ic...
