In a further pronouncement of human ingenuity and enterprise, a small team of five-six rat-hole miners on Tuesday have managed to dig through the rubble with hand-held implements, making way for a 800 mm pipe to barge through and reach out the trapped 41 miners 17 days after an under-construction tunnel collapsed in Uttarkashi.

Indian authorities are now exploring five new plans to rescue workers trapped inside a collapsed tunnel in Uttarakhand. The five plans include drilling from one end to the other on both Silkyara and Barkot sides, vertical drilling from top of the tunnel and perpendicular drilling, former Advisor to PM and now OSD in Uttarakhand government Bhaskar Khulbe told reporters in Silkyara on Saturday.
