Children at a rural Te Tai Tokerau school are learning in the corridor, in the staffroom and sometimes even outside because of a lack of classrooms.
Tautoro School, south of Kaikohe, has doubled in size in the past five years to 154 students, but it is not getting any new teaching spaces until the end of the year.
The library is now a full-time classroom, and the school s biggest room has been split to fit two classes.
There is no school hall and sometimes children are taught outside, depending on the weather, so they re not so squished. ....

It will be six months this weekend since a one in 250-year flood wreaked havoc in Napier. While some have returned to home and work, many are still facing hurdles.

An investigation into 10 unlawful Chinese workers should also probe whether agents and corrupt officials helped them secure visas, according to an immigration lawyer.
The men, who were working in construction, are in the process of being deported amid concerns they could be the victims of exploitation or human trafficking.
Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi has previously said it was an operational matter.
We have been assured that the appropriate processes have been followed and Immigration NZ has not found any evidence of trafficking, Faafoi said. ....
