LUCKNOW: Extreme fatigue with a sudden drop in platelets in blood is also a symptom of Covid-19 in initial stages, while fever and extreme breathlessness develops later. If ignored, these initial symptoms could be fatal.
Alim Sheikh (60) of Azaad Nagar Para Road got a blood test done after feeling extreme fatigue on April 18. A day later, a blood test advised by a doctor found that his platelet count was 85,000 against the normal 1.5-4.5 lakh. He started taking medicines prescribed by the doctor, but on April 23 developed acute breathlessness. Another blood test found that the platelet count has dropped to 20,000. The family then took him to several hospitals, but all denied admission saying they don’t have oxygen supported beds. “He died waiting for medical assistance.”, said Alim’s niece Sana.
