The Malabar Hill police on Wednesday arrested a Navi Mumbai resident who allegedly siphoned Rs 1.73 lakh from the account of a housewife from Napean Sea Road by posing as an electricity supply company employee. Significantly, the police have succeeded in returning part of the swindled amount to the victim.

MUMBAI: The Banking unit of the economic offences wing arrested two persons for creating a fake bank guarantee of Rs 7.2 crore which was submitted to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbon (DGH). The victim had submitted the bank guarantee after he got a mining contract from a government run natural gas company. The victim was given the bogus guarantee by the accused who charged Rs 80 lakh as commission. The cheating amount as per the FIR is Rs 80 lakh.
