17th National Mourning Day observed in Karbi Anglong

Our Correspondent Diphu, Oct. 17 (EMN): The 17th National Mourning Day was observed on Monday to commemorate those who lost their lives in a mass massacre on October 17, 2005 in West Karbi Anglong. Miscreants attacked and killed innocent lives from two Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) transport buses coming down from Jirikending at Charchim – Prisek. Altogether 41 innocent lives, including children, were lost. The National Mourning Day was held at the incident site at Charchim – Prisek. Keeping aside political and religious differences, the victim’s family members and public participated in the mourning day by offering prayers at the commemorative stone. Participating in the mourning day, the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) also offered floral tribute and prayers to the victims at the commemorative stone erected at the site. Diphu Town Lake all set for renovation - Eastern Mirror

Our Correspondent Diphu, Oct. 16 (EMN): Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, on Sunday laid the foundation stone for development of Diphu Town Lake. The lake will be beautified and recreational infrastructure developed under the package of memorandum of settlement (MoS) by the United People’s Democratic Society (UPDS) in 2011 at an estimated cost of INR 11.99 crore. Among others, the event was attended by Bidyasing Engleng, MLA; chairman of KAAC, Raju Tisso; executive member, Education, Richard Tokbi and chairman of Diphu Municipal Board, Rah Kro.

KAAC holds supplementary budget session - Eastern Mirror

Our Correspondent Diphu, Sep.30 (EMN): Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) held a supplementary budget session on Friday relating to payment of outstanding liabilities under Primary Education department, PWD and Works department. Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang, who placed the supplementary budget under various heads of accounts, said the original grant of budgetary allocation for the administration of justices for setting up of village courts as per the Mikir Hills Autonomous District (Administration of Justice) Rules 1954, was INR 167 lakh, but an additional amount of INR 335.20 lakh is required to meet the expenses. The CEM informed chairman, KAAC, Raju Tisso, who chaired the session that an additional amount of INR 1000 lakh against the original grant of INR 2636 lakh budgetary allocation for the Education department is required. Ronghang also sought an additional amount of INR 36, 80, 00,000 against the original grant of INR 36, 80, 00,000 for the Works department needed to meet the shortage of funds for payment of completed schemes. Around 100 teachers honoured on Teachers' Day in KA

Our Correspondent Diphu, Sep. 5 (EMN): The Education department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) organised a district-level Teachers’ Day celebration at DAV HS School here on Monday, to honour the teachers of the district. During the celebration, the department honoured 17 teachers for their selfless contribution towards education, while another 17 teachers from the lower primary section, 29 from middle school section and 37 from the high school section, who have retired from teaching jobs, were honored and felicitated by Chairman, KAAC, Raju Tisso. Meritorious students who secured positions in the last HSLC examination, 2022 from both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong were also felicitated. Awareness campaign on transforming education system in Karbi Anglong launched

Alarming dropout rate with zero teachers in 30 schools    Our Correspondent Diphu, Aug. 1 (EMN): Initiated by the Education department, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the Chief executive member (CEM) KAAC Tuliram Ronghang on Aug. 1 launched the awareness campaign for quality education in the Education department, KAAC, at the conference hall of the new KAAC Secretariat. More than 26 social and students’ organisations of Karbi Anglong attended the launching programme.The student leaders shared their views and opinions on the development of quality education in Karbi Anglong. Interestingly, this is the first time the authority of the KAAC held a meeting with stakeholders about the development of quality education. During the launching programme, the CEM cautioned that if irregularities of teachers are found in schools in respective Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituencies or poor infrastructures, the Ems, local MAC and Education department have to look out for the matter. KAAC nominated members administered oath of office

Our Correspondent Diphu, July 8 (EMN): The four nominated Members of Autonomous Council (MAC) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KACC) were administered the oath of office here on Friday. The election to the 26 seats of the KAAC was held on June 8, where all the seats were won by BJP. The KAAC, governed under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, can induct four as nominated members. The four nominated members namely Phenpiga Rengma, former chairman of Sports and Youth Development Board, KAAC; Mukut Mahanta, former MAC from Deopani; Dr. Mongve Rongpi and Krishna Bahadur Bhatarai Chetry were administered the oath of office by the deputy commissioner, Dibakar Nath, on behalf of the Governor of Assam, held at the auditorium of new KAAC Secretariat building on Friday. Tuliramn Ronghang elected unopposed as KAAC CEM

Our Correspondent Diphu, June 23 (EMN): Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Tuliram Ronghang has been elected unopposed as Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for a consecutive third term. Raju Tisso, Chairman of KAAC presided over the election for the post of CEM held at the KAAC session on Thursday. The chairman, while announcing the name for the post of CEM said, “As no other candidates are contesting for the post of CEM, I declare the name of MAC Tuliram Ronghang as CEM”. Ronghang, after taking charge as CEM, thanked all the other 24 elected members present in the house for their support. He further said, “With the collective support and team spirit of ‘Team Karbi Anglong’, we can do a lot for the development of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.
