Gopal Sharma JAMMU, Mar 14: While the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FC) has failed to clear about 6 years old liability of contactors worth over Rs 12 cores, the agency was yet to launch de-silting work of Ranbir Canal, Partap Canal and its distributaries in Jammu areas. Reports said that on the day of Baisakhi, the water is released in Ranbir Canal from Chenab river at Akhnoor every year. The flow of water is stopped during winter months. Now, since hardly one month has been left for release of water in the Canal, the Irrigation Department (Now Jal Shakti Deptt) is least bothered about the cleanliness of the Canal besides de-siltation exercise. ....

Heritage train to chug on historical route of Jammu-Suchetgarh Shiv Chander Sharma To give fillip to the border tourism in Jammu and attract large number of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, the UT Government of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to run the heritage train from Bikram Chowk in Jammu city to Suchetgarh via R S Pura on the historical route on which once train used to run from Jammu to Lahore via Sialkot (Now in Pakistan). Sialkot is just 11 km from Suchetgarh, the last town on the Indo-Pak border on the Indian side. This heritage train will be on the same pattern of Shimla-Kalka route in Himachal Pradesh in which hundreds of tourists visit daily to and fro.
