The Las Vegas Grand Prix, which locals who worked the Strip had grown to despise, suddenly seemed made for this city. But while Strip casinos made a profit, smaller, local businesses were hurt by the event.

ARRESTS
The following people were arrested on felony charges by law enforcement agencies in Davidson County, and, unless noted otherwise, were either placed in the Davidson County Detention Center or released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court on the date given:
Percy Leon Banks, Jr., 50, of 303 Cotton Grove Road, was charged with felony possession of cocaine, misdemeanor open container, misdemeanor possession of marijuana up to a half-ounce, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, $12,000 unsecured bond, May 25.
Mel R. Burham, 34, of 149 Cliffwood Drive, was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor injury to real property, $20,000 secured bond, April 30.
