Raspberry Pi enthusiasts may be interested to know that the excellent Visual Studio Code editor is now available for the Raspberry Pi mini PC and can be easily installed using the following commands : sudo apt update – sudo apt install code -y Don’t forget if you have already started using the new Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller VS Code is installed as part of the Pico setup from the Getting Started guide published by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. As well as Visual Studio Code supporting Debian Linux on x64, there are now builds for ARM and ARM64, both of which can be loaded and run on the Raspberry Pi OS (the ARM build on Raspberry Pi OS, the ARM64 on the beta of the 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS). Ashley Whittaker explains more on the RPi Blog: ....

Design process for Raspberry Silicon outlined by engineer

st January at a price of just US$4. The Pico is a microcontroller - a device-class often paired with a more powerful computer for analogue input and low-latency I/O, and sometimes a very-low power standby mode. One of the most interesting things about the Pico was that it became the first product to feature Raspberry Silicon , in the shape of the RP2040, and on Monday one of the engineers tasked with making this first in-house processor design wrote a blog on the whole process, entitled The journey to Raspberry Silicon.
The journey began in the summer of 2017. After deciding what fundamental components the RP2040 would require, design went ahead using industry standard tools like Verilog and VHDL. Testing and verification was done first in simulation, and as things become more advanced the design team started to use FPGAs. Even the fastest FPGA s the chip designers used only ran at 48MHz, while the final RP2040 production chip would run at 133MHz. ....

New Open Book DIY eReader will be powered by Raspberry Pi Pico

Geeky Gadgets
1:29 pm
Joey Castillo developer of the Open Book Project has this week announced that the next DIY Open Book DIY eReader will be powered by the new Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller launched last month. The Open Book Project provides all the instruction you need to be able to build your very own DIY eReader, albeit with 114 different components. Although the next version will be slightly more accessible using 35 to 45 parts depending on the features you would like to include. The Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller costs just $4 and is powered by the Foundations RP2040 microcontroller featuring a 133 MHz dual-core AQM Cortex-M0+ processor, and was designed in-house by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. ....

If you are interested in adding a reset button to your Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller, you will be pleased to know that the official Raspberry Pi Foundation has published a quick tutorial detailing how this can be done very easily. As well as adding a reset button you also get debugger support, which is invaluable while developing, and involves adding just three more wires, if you connect your Pico to a Raspberry Pi 4 mini PC.
“We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for you to load your code onto your new Raspberry Pi Pico: press and hold the BOOTSEL button, plug your Pico into your computer, and it’ll mount as a mass storage volume. Then just drag and drop a UF2 file onto the board. However, not everybody is keen to keep unplugging their micro USB cable every time they want to upload a UF2 onto the board. Don’t worry there’s more than one way around that problem. ....

If you are having fun playing with the new Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller launched last month by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. You may be interested in a new project published to the Hackster.io website, detailing a way to add a cellular Internet of things device to the tiny Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller
“Like most of the maker world, was caught totally by surprise last week when the Raspberry Pi team announced their first microcontroller, the Pico. A custom, dual core, M0+ for 4 bucks? Sign me up!I got my Pico this week and it’s an impressive little device with lots of GPIOs, peripherals, and support for both C and MicroPython. And since the Notecard Python library supports MicroPython, CircuitPython and Python out of the box, I figured I’d wire up the Notecard and show off how you can use the two to add cellular connectivity to your Pico projects.” ....
